Diagnostic Assessment Before Installing
Unofficial APKs carry inherent account ban and privacy liabilities. Before sideloading, use our interactive Security & Ban Risk Analyzer to calculate your heuristic risk rating, or review the Technical Comparison Matrix to contrast official vs unofficial client architectures.
1.Before installation
A few minutes of preparation prevents most problems. Latest recorded version: 18.60 (78 MB, Android 6.0 or higher).
- Decide whether you are comfortable with an unofficial app. Read GB WhatsApp vs WhatsApp first.
- Check your Android version in Settings > About phone and read the Android requirements guide.
- Free up storage: keep at least three times the file size available.
- Back up your chats with the backup guide.
- Use a phone number you can afford to lose access to. Accounts on unofficial apps can be restricted.
2.Downloading the APK
- 1Open the latest version page and note the version and file size.
- 2Use the download button and wait for the file to finish. Stay on a stable connection.
- 3When it ends, open your Downloads folder and compare the file size with 78 MB. If it is much smaller, delete it and try again.
3.Android installation permission
Android only installs apps from outside Google Play if you allow it. On modern Android (8.0 and later) this is granted per app, for the app you open the file with.
- 1Tap the downloaded APK. If Android shows a prompt that installs are blocked, choose Settings.
- 2Turn on Allow from this source for that app (your browser or file manager).
- 3Go back and continue the installation.
On menus that differ by brand, search Settings for Install unknown apps. On Android 7.1 and older there is a single Unknown sources switch under Security.
4.Installing
- 1Tap the APK file again.
- 2Review the permissions list shown by Android. If something looks unrelated to messaging, stop and reconsider.
- 3Tap Install and wait for the progress bar.
- 4If Play Protect shows a notice, read it carefully. It is a warning about an app that did not come from Google Play. Only continue if you trust the source and accept that risk.
5.Opening the application
- 1Tap Open on the final install screen, or find the new icon in your app drawer.
- 2Read the terms screen. You are agreeing to the terms of an unofficial app.
- 3Grant only the permissions you need: contacts, storage and notifications are typical.
6.Setup
- 1Enter your phone number and wait for the verification code by SMS or call.
- 2If you made a backup, look for a restore prompt. The restore guide explains when it appears.
- 3Add your name and photo, then open settings to review privacy options.
- 4Go through the privacy settings and enable two-step verification if the app offers it.
7.Updating
There are no automatic Play Store updates, so you install a newer file manually. Back up first, download the newer APK, and install it over the existing app instead of uninstalling. Full instructions are in How to Update GB WhatsApp, and the version history shows when new builds are recorded.
8.Troubleshooting
- Restart the phone and try the installation again.
- Delete the file, download it again, and compare the size.
- Free more storage, then retry.
- Make sure the permission is granted for the app you are opening the file with.
- If an old copy of the app is installed and signed differently, back up and see the installation failed guide.
- If it installs but misbehaves, use the not-working troubleshooting guide.
9.Common errors
| Message | Likely cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| App not installed | Conflict with an existing install, low storage or corrupted file | Re-download, free storage, check for a conflicting copy |
| There was a problem parsing the package | Incomplete download or unsupported Android version | Compare file size, check Android version |
| Install blocked | Install unknown apps permission not granted | Grant it for the app you open the file with, then turn it off afterwards |
| You need the official WhatsApp | Account restricted for using an unofficial app | Wait for the restriction to end or use the official app |
10.FAQ
How do I install GB WhatsApp?
Download the APK file from a source you trust, allow your file manager or browser to install unknown apps just for this install, open the file and follow the prompts. The full walkthrough is on the installation page.

Do I need to change Android security settings?
You need to allow the app you opened the file with (for example your browser or file manager) to install unknown apps. This is a per-app permission on modern Android. Turn it off again after installing. You should never need to switch off Play Protect or other security protections.

Can I keep the official WhatsApp installed too?
Usually yes, because unofficial builds use a different package name, but each install needs its own phone number. Registering the same number in both apps will log one of them out.

Why does it say "App not installed"?
The usual causes are a corrupted or partial download, not enough storage, a conflict with an existing install signed differently, or an Android version that is too old. Work through the checklist in our installation failed guide.

Does GB WhatsApp update automatically?
It is not distributed through Google Play, so Play-style automatic updates do not apply. Updating normally means installing a newer APK manually. Bookmark the versions page to see when a new release is recorded.

Is GB WhatsApp safe?
We cannot guarantee that. It is modified by third parties, so you cannot assume the same security and privacy guarantees as the official app. If privacy matters most, the official app from Google Play is the safest-supported choice.
